How Much Can God Do?

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen"(Eph 3:20-21)

How much can God do? He can do all that we ask. The greatest, most tremendous desires we possess are fully within His ability. If we are able to ask it, He is able to do it. Jesus said, "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says"(Mark 11:23). Now we ought not ask for our own pleasures (James 4:3) or to test God (1 Cor 10:9), yet still He has the ability, power, and authority to do all that we ask.

How much can God do? He can do all that we think. There are things that lie far outside the realm of the natural that rest only in the imagination-God is able to perform them. When the angel tells Mary she will give birth to Jesus, she asks, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"(Luke 1:34). The angel replies, "For with God nothing will be impossible"(Luke 1:37). The farthest reaches of human imagination- which can barely grasp what is outside the natural-are entirely within the power of Almighty God.

How much can God do? Far more! He can do "above all that we ask or think". Things that are outside the feeble mouth and the feeble mind of man, God is able to do. "But as it is written, 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him'"(1 Cor 2:9). Here are things we cannot invent or understand-they are above what we ask or think. Yet God has established them and provided them for us. More, "But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit"(1 Cor 2:10). He has placed them in our hearts and mouths through the Bible, so that we understand a whole other realm of God's power.

How much can God do? Far more! He can do "abundantly above all that we ask or think". His thoughts, deeds, and power are not simply outside our realm, they are far outside it! "'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts'"(Isaiah 55:8-9). God cannot simply do more than we ask or think, but far more.

How much can God do? Far more! He can do "exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think". Is your mind boggled yet? Simply put, God's power is infinite and endless. And compared to our miniscule power and scope of influence, He is exceedingly abundantly above us.

When adversity and challenges arise in life, to whom shall we go but the one who is able to do so much? The question of interest is not whether God is trustworthy, but whether we are able to trust Him! God can do far more than we can do, ask, or think. Can't He help us?

Ask! Trust Him! He is able! ___Jacob Hudgins
