Only Jesus

 Only Jesus

We cannot trust the words of men (1 Cor 2:13), teach the commands of men (Matt 15:9), or exalt men above Christ (Col 1:15-18). Only Jesus saves. Yet often we forget these admonitions of Scripture and elevate men above their proper station.
When men vote on whether Scripture is true, is Christ the head of that church (Eph 1:22)? When men are called Father and Reverend against explicit commands of Christ (Matt 23:8-12), is He glorified? When Christ's command of baptism for forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16, Acts 22:16) is left out of the gospel message, is He pleased?
Jesus prayed for unity among those who follow Him (John 17:21). Yet just as the Corinthians said "I am of Paul" or "I am of Apollos"(1 Cor 1:12), so many today say "I am of Wesley" or "I am of Luther." Whatever happened to "I am of Christ"? Denominational differences are not from God, who urges His followers to be unified on His word (1 Cor 1:10). Introducing the thoughts of men only divides. Can we not be simple New Testament Christians by following simple New Testament teaching?
We must "hold fast to the Head"(Col 2:19). Only Jesus saves.___Jacob Hudgins
